Yes, you read right. Ty Segall; prolific solo artist, Fuzz member, and all round lord of the garage, has released a teaser for his forthcoming album Manipulator. The three-minute video makes absolutely no sense at all, and that’s fine. It chronicles some weird car ride with Ty and friends; his friends being a woman in hair rolls, a prostitute, a business man and a spontaneous 70s babe, and then the car ride ends in tragedy/bad CGI. It’s accompanied by short clippings of the songs on the album, which mostly follow Segall’s usual vein of structurally simple and massively distorted rock tracks inspired by garage, sunshine folk, and the late-60s in general.

It’s a good precedent for the album, I suppose. Titles emerge throughout the saga, including ‘Susy Thumb’, ‘The Singer’, ‘The Faker’, and ‘Mister Main’ amongst some others. The album features a range of several other musicians, including singer Brit Lauren Manor, session drummer Steve Nutting, and who else besides the Ty Segall band – Mikal Cronin, Charles Moothart and Emily Rose Epstein.

Manipulator is set to be released on August 22nd through Spunk Records.
