A moving visual accompaniment to the collaboration between The Kite String Tangle and Dustin Tebbutt, ‘Illuminate,’ has just been released. The video, directed by Lachlan Dickie of Exit Films, features off-beat and poetic visuals.

From the very first frame of the video, the viewer is positioned to live vicariously through the world-weary protagonist. The scruffy, middle-aged man shuffles through everyday life, intrinsically desiring to escape the ongoing cycle he is stuck in. We see him seek out various objects and scenarios that symbolise death, in an attempt to break free of life’s mediocrity.

Dissatisfaction with life is a dark theme, but the track and visual accompaniment, are presented in a poignant and relatable manner. The gloomy subject matter of the video is juxtaposed perfectly with the light, airy vocals, and shimmering production of ‘Illuminate.’

The two pieces work seamlessly together; demonstrating the talents of not only The Kite String Tangle and Dustin Tebbutt; but also the director. This collaboration features two of Australia’s most promising young artists, and is worth a watch and listen on a moody winter afternoon.
