Eccentric Australian pop star Sia has released a new clip for ‘Big Girls Cry‘, and it once again features young Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler.
The new single is taken from Sia’s sixth successful studio album 1000 Forms of Fear, and is the third music video from the release. As usual, Sia herself is not present in the video.
Directed by Daniel Askill, the clip depicts Ziegler in her trademark blonde, Sia-esque wig. Throughout the video – filmed purely as a close-up head shot – Maddie pulls faces and crazy eyes at the camera, evoking the madness of the song’s ambiguous lyrics.
The lyric’s emotions and meanings are deliberately exaggerated by Ziegler’s actions, gestures and expressions, in a artistic fashion that has become synonymous with Sia’s recent work.
12-year-old Ziegler has starred in all of Sia’s new album clips. She was first cast in 2014 for the oddball ‘Chandelier’ video, and then alongside actor Shia LaBeouf in the controversial clip for ‘Elastic Heart’ earlier this year.
‘Big Girls Cry’ is off Sia’s latest album 1000 Forms of Fear out now via Inertia Recordings.
