According to Melbourne three-piece Rival Fire, their latest single Memories is a simple tale of love and loss. Stemming from the ‘collective mindset’ of Rob Farnham, Tim Smyth and Matt D’Arcy, this release sets a precedent for their debut album Let It Go; which is to be recorded early next year with The Killers and Fleetwood Mac engineer Mark Needham. Memories is the product of a lot of time spent in LA and a lot of time spent alone. Rival Fire detail an ‘isolated two-bedroom house on a 3000-acre property in regional Victoria’ when describing the single’s creation. Throw into the mix an absence of internet and mobile phones, a shared attachment to the notion of loss and ‘moments of fragmented light’; and you have Memories as the synth-heavy, drum-spaced and lyrically direct result.
