Lily Allen continues her musical comeback with her new track ‘Sheezus’; a slew of uncomfortably blatant pop culture references crammed into the space of four minutes. Aside from the track’s title itself (in case you were asleep for all of 2013, it’s a nod to Kanye West’s Yeezus), Allen centres her focus on at least semi-relevant female pop stars – leading one to speculate whether the RnB-influenced track is a genuine, albeit shotty, attempt by Allen to regain the razor sharp social commentary that characterised her earlier hits like The Fear and LDN, or just a consciously cheap attempt at a comeback. Regardless, Allen has been today announced as a headliner at this year’s Splendour in the Grass Festival – so whatever it is she’s trying to do, it’s working.
