The highly anticipated DC Comic flick Suicide Squad has had it’s first official trailer released on the back of its premiere at San Diego Comic Con this month.

From director David Ayer, the all-star film follows the exploits of DC Comics anti-heroes, and stars the likes of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Jared Leto in the title roles.

The first look trailer – which was leaked weeks early such to the disappointment of it’s distributor Warner Bros. Pictures – is a HD teaser into the world of the deranged criminals recruited as a vigilante team.

In the 3 min + clip, Australia’s Jai Courtney makes his appearance as Captain Boomerang alongside fellow Aussie Margot Robbie as the cheeky, peroxide blonde Harley Quinn. British model and actress Delevingne is broody and moody as Enchantress, and Will Smith suits up as Deadshot.

A creepy, female cover of the Bee Gees hit ‘I Started A Joke‘ plays throughout, adding to the already dangerous and tense tone of the clip, and alluding to the yet-to-be-seen appearance of Jared Leto’s Joker.

Finally, in the final few seconds of the video, we get a snippet at Leto’s tattooed and silver-toothed madman Joker, and his raspy vocals are an eerie reminder of the late Heath Ledger‘s stunning debut as the same villain back in 2008.

Suicide Squad will ride on the coattails of the equally successful Marvel franchise and is set for release on August 5, 2016.
