NGV’s inaugural Melbourne Art Book Fair has attracted a record number over the weekend, and is set to re-emerge with another amazing 2016 event!
Presenting Artist Book makers from around Australia and Overseas, the Book Fair saw over 16,000 visitors this past weekend, presenting works from the likes of John Wolseley, Jon Campbell and Jeff Koons, as well as commissioned works from locally based artists such as Minna Gilligan, Patrick Pound and Jess Johnson.
For anyone who visited the kaleidoscope of cardboard stalls, stands and books, (made by Fold Theory’s Tobias Horrocks,) here were our top 5 picks from this year’s book fair!
TOP 5 MUST-SEE STALLS:
1. 3-ply
Directed by Fayen d’Evie, 3-ply is an independent publishing initiative that focuses on publication,
writing, editing and translation as an extension of art practice, and presented some diverse books from art practice, painting and more.
2. The Good Copy
Run by the new kids on the type block, The Good Copy is a writing studio, a shop,
a school and a publisher, and had some pretty amazing cups, posters and badges at the Fair!
A definite souvenir stall!
3. Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison
Melbourne-based team Gracia and Louise are besotted with paper and have created
some amazing collage works that are currently at the Book Fair!
4. Discipline
Melbourne-based publisher and contemporary art journal edited by Nicholas Croggon,
David Homewood, and Helen Hughes presents a theoretical side of art practice,
the journals a great keepsake for artists.
Known for it’s Gallery space, West Space is a non-profit artist-led organisation supporting
the activities of artists within a critical context, and had some pretty awesome contemporary pieces!
