Acclaimed Australian artist Vincent Fantauzzo’s 30/30 Project is coming to the Victorian city of Benalla. Fantauzzo’s project opens on Friday 4th March at the Benalla Art Gallery and is presented by Wonderment Walk Victoria.
Taking inspiration from the people of Australia he spent 30 days painting 30 Australians from different backgrounds and disciplines. Curiosity about who we are as Australians and how we are distinct from the rest of the world’s nations being the driving factor behind this passion project.
The portraits include the Hon Bob Hawke AC, film director Baz Luhrmann, astronomer Brian Schmidt AC, actress Asher Keddie, AFL player Heritier Lumumba, David Walsh founder of MONA Tasmania, just to name a few.
“We are such a small country but we impact the world quite heavily, often through the arts.
“So what I did was just go out and ask, say, Baz, and paint him, and ask him, who inspires him. And he’d say, Elizabeth. I ask Elizabeth, who inspires her and she’ll pass me onto someone else,” said Fantauzzo.
The collection has previously been exhibited at NGV Studio, Federation Square, RMIT University, Yarra Gallery, La Trobe University’s Borchardt Library, and Cathedral Room at ANZ Collins Street.
A floor talk will be held with curator Alex McCulloch at 5:30 pm Monday 4th April at Benalla Art Gallery.
