For the track of the day we have the new spicy, spacey and spectacular jam from Melbourne based garage rockers Baby Blue. Taken from their forthcoming EP ‘Do What You Like’, the follow up to their 2017 debut ‘In My Mind’, ‘Fire and Ice’ sees the group developing upon a hazy psychedelic garage rock sound whilst maintaining a solid and surfy groove. It’s meditative, sombre yet subtly childlike, as though the end of days is being told by someone who’s not exactly convinced that it’s that big of a deal.

The hilariously blunt and weirdly soothing sentiments are echoed by leader of the band Rhea Caldwell, stating that the track is about a moment in her life where she was “thinking a lot about how the world is on its way to destroying humans through climate change and how my relationship at the time was falling apart”. It was in this moment that the track emerged and where she found “solace in the fact that nothing is permanent… Everything ends so do what you like with your life.”

The span of the track is epic, with a diverse range of instrumental flavours being presented throughout, yet it’s also expertly contained, clocking in at only five minutes and ending with the now reassuring idea that “it all ends in the end”- reminding listeners to find freedom in entropy.

Whilst ‘Do What You Like’ is set to be released later in the year by Melbourne label Neat Lawn, the group have a stacked set of tour dates coming up all over the country as they tour the single and other material they are excited to share with their ammassing audience.
