If her first single ‘Slow Mover’ (which came in at #33 in last years Hottest 100) is looking towards the future with a desperate sense of hope, than this new track ‘Missing Me’ has Melbourne indie-star Angie McMahon looking towards the present and trying desperately to attain control of it.
The track begins with an unmistakable air of aggression and moodiness, a lone and affronting electric guitar sets the scene in a stultifying fashion, capable of stopping anyone in their tracks and demanding their attention. When Angie’s vocals come into the mix, soaring above the guitar like an angry and beautiful eagle,it’s clear that she’s got something to say.
That something, according to Angie herself, is a melting pot of “sass and angst that bubbles under the surface when someone isn’t listening to you, or they’re letting you down, or breaking your heart.” It’s in this unique collision between honest insecurity and empowering swagger that really brings this track to life and is sure to resonate in many people’s hearts and minds.
It’s an incredibly well written and well recorded tune that is ripe with indignation and pain. In short, it’s the perfect song to play when you don’t get invited to pre-drinks.
On the back of a massive tour with Angus and Julia Stone, Angie will be doing more shows in celebration of the ‘Missing Me’ release. Due to high demand, even more shows have been added, so if you missed out before, you have a second chance!
If her first two singles are anything to go by then Angie’s upcoming debut album is sure to be one of the most engaging listens of 2018.
