White Night is one of those crazy events where Melbourne city is transformed into a phantasmagoria of lights, sounds and impeccable crowds.
If Sydney’s Vivid Festival was on steroids, you may get to the level of crazed excitement that White night ensues in all Melburnians.
Only in it’s third year, White Night has taken the city by storm, offering a mix of free and ticketed entertainment over 12 hours, featuring local, national and international artists works from Australia, France, Canada, Greece, Portugal, India and the United Kingdom.
With way too many amazing light-bending shows around the city to count, here are our Top 5 picks for White Night 2015:
1: Neon Angel Wings:
A new Installation piece by Carla O’Brien, Neon Angel wings are suspended within the Queen Victoria Gardens where punters can “wear” the wings and be angelic for a moment.
2: Rabbit Hole:
Fall down the Rabbit hole again with Lewis Carroll in an appropriated light show dedicated to the book that never gets old. Celebrating the sesquicentenary since “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” was published, a light show is transforming the exterior of the State Library to celebrate and depict the very beginnings of this tale.
Featuring an amazing array of projections along Flinders Street, Wonderland features film screenings, Installations and all night Jazz at the Forum. Definitely an event to see when it reaches 4am!
4: The Pursuit of Wholeness:
Returning for the third time, Freya Pitt is presenting her newest Installation “The Pursuit of Wholeness,” combining readings, dedications, technology and music, creating an immersive experience of love being ‘all around.’
5: 4 Elements
Possibly one of the most awe-inspiring light shows this year, 4 Elements, exhibited in the Royal Exhibition Building, showcases how a physical occurrence can be felt, touched or perceived.
The truth is, no matter where you go or what you see on White Night, you won’t be disappointed. This year’s programme is definitely full of amazing and talented local and International artists, and is certainly an event, not to miss!
White Night is running this Saturday 21st February from 7pm-7am around the Melbourne CBD.
