For Melbourne’s own The Ocean Party, there’s a simple pleasure that arises in the harmony of multiple strings and keys that feels almost contagious. Trading in their bedroom sound for a slick studio production; ‘Guess Work’ hears the band dive straight into the depth of their achy pop sound, flickering over peppered piano keys and layering a soft, steady rhythm. With swirling lyrics and a careless warm breeze, the single brushes against your cheeks before floating away in the air. Following on from their 2014 release Soft Focus, their upcoming record aims to foster this sound, contemplating lyrical intents and notes that perhaps “exist outside it all“.
