Ta-ku and Wafia have announced their latest collaboration with the upcoming release of their EP, (m)edian. Due out 24 June on Future Classic, (m)edian is set to be a five-track intimate artwork, combining Wafia’s beautiful vocals and Ta-ku’s killer production.
Their latest offering comes in the form of a smooth, RnB-influenced track. ‘Meet in the Middle,’ the duo’s first single, is intricate and heart-rending. ‘Meet in the Middle’ is a sweet, sweet contrast of a pop-like heartache and an RnB beat. Dipping into the pair’s own separate, personal experiences with lyrics like “caught up in your empty space” and “couldn’t find a reason why you’d want to stay”, Ta-ku and Wafia go deep with their discussion of compromise, communication, and sacrifice.
Yet, it is the song’s overall production that makes it shine. ‘Meet in the Middle’s’ slow, deep bassline and beat is similar to that of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Swimming Pools’ – oozing coolness, and an underlying tone of seductiveness.
If you enjoyed the duo’s first collaboration, their take on Estelle’s 2008 ‘American Boy,’ ‘Meet in the Middle’ will certainly entice you.
Set to perform at the Sydney Opera House next week for a sold-out show as part of VIVID Live, Ta-ku and Wafia’s collaborative effort is one to certainly wrap your ears around.
More shows have been added. Check out Ta-ku and Wafia at the Sydney Opera House on Friday 3 June, and again in Perth at the State Of The Art Festival on Monday 6 June.
