Celebrating their sixth birthday, music website and national television show Speaker TV intend to celebrate in style at this year’s Melbourne Music Week, on Sunday 16th November, with the help of a power packed all ages live showcase of local hip hop courtesy of some of the scene’s most promising artists.
Set to come to life during the weeklong celebration of music at the newly revealed MMW Hub, Speaker TV is presenting four inimitable hip-hop performances, with a fifth to be announced closer to the event. Following the installation of KUBIK Melbourne, Where?House at the Argus Building and The Residence at band of the Yarra, The Queen Victoria Market (QVM) is this year’s flagship venue. The iconic location will be transformed into a dynamic space of cutting-edge installations and programming.
Leading the charge for the event, teenage bedroom producer turn chart-dominating rhymester Tom Gaynor aka Allday. After delivering his curated tongue-in-cheek lyrical flavour through his June released debut Start Up Cult, the Melbourne via Adelaide based talent has pocketed a lions share of accolades, including a top 3 ARIA chart debut – no mean feat for an Australian solo hip hop artist.
After his widely received debut record One attracted a wealth of interest on both the airplay and live performance fronts, Melbourne’s L-Fresh The Lion has landed himself performances at some of the country’s leading music events, including Brisbane’s BigSound and the Rolling Stone pop-up event, as well as touring the country side in tandem with the likes of Remi, Horrorshow and Talib Kweli, to name a few. L-Fresh The Lion brings his uniquely spun hip-hop message through his conscious lyricism and honest performance ritual.
Youthful talked about hip-hop up and comer Baro is set to join in on the beat laden party festivities at this year’s Melbourne Music Week. Since pricking the ears of Triple J hosts and listeners alike, the complex yet memorable lyrical trimmings of the MC have been pursued by those looking to catch a glimpse of his eclectic live performances.
Providing an energetic, fun filled element to the proceedings, fresh faced trio The D.Y.E are performing their intriguing live routine on the day, enlisting their evolving party hip hop flavour as the backdrop to their set.
Speaker TV is also looking forward to announcing the final act for the day, which will be decided by a panel of yet to be announced music industry identities, along with the Speaker TV Music gurus. They’ll are giving one hip-hop/soul/funk act the opportunity to perform along side Allday, L-Fresh The Lion, Baro and The D.Y.E on Sunday 16th November at the Queen Victoria Market (QVM).
Stay tuned for competition details to be revealed on October 1st.
