Finally! The Red Bull Sound Select is coming down-under! If you’re not up to speed with what the project is all about it’s basically a program that is designed to support and uncover rad local talent. Cool huh?
Commencing later this month, the Red Bull Sound Select series will be monthly shows curated by music fans for music fans, so if you’re a fan of live music, get on board! Your curators for the event are I OH YOU’s Johann Ponniah and Laneway Festival’s Travis Banko.
You’ll catch three acts during the show, one headliner, and two Red Bull Sound Select emerging artists. The first show is presented by I OH YOU will take place on April 29th at the Chippendale Hotel.

As fans of what the program has been achieving internationally, we’re incredibly excited to be a part of bringing it to Australian shores. Just hoping we can keep pushing the envelope like other curators have been internationally and program some of the best up and coming talent that Australia has to offer (and there’s a lot of it!.” said Johann Ponniah
Headlining the first show is WA’s own Methyl Ethel who’ve recently signed to 4AD, nailed it at SXSW and have been regulars on Australian airwaves. Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coast Fever will also feature and Sydney darlings Flowertruck round out the bill.
The initiative has had widespread success in North America, Canada, and New Zealand and it’s our turn.

Red Bull Sounds Select takes place in Sydney on the last Friday of every month beginning April 29th
Each show will be presented by either I OH YOU (Johann Ponniah) or Laneway Festival (Travis Banko)
The audience will be treated to a bunch of surprises, particularly those who arrive early
