Pete Doherty of The Libertines and Babyshambles is set to release a single entitled ‘Flags Of The Old Regime’ on March 9th, with all proceeds going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
‘Flags Of The Old Regime’ was written by Doherty in the immediate aftermath of good friend, Amy Winehouse‘s death. The Libertines frontman has stated that he will be ‘haunted ’til his dyng day’ by not making music with Winehouse. Doherty further explained, “We’d get together to make some music but we never really did, not properly.” so after a successful stay in rehab for the musician and poet, Doherty has decided it is time to raise awareness for the problems he and Winehouse have struggled with by donating all proceeds to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
The Amy Winehouse Foundation aids many disadvantaged groups of people but has three main goals:
- To inform and educate young people about the effects of drug and alcohol misuse, as well as to support those seeking help for their problems and those needing on-going support in their recovery
- To provide support for those most vulnerable, including those who are disadvantaged through circumstance or at high risk of substance misuse.
- To support the personal development of disadvantaged young people through music.
Doherty talks further about the song and his relationship with Winehouse in the video below.
