Australia’s hip hop climate in recent years has been bursting with fresh talent, helping cement the genre’s presence in Australian music. Amongst the new generation of MC’s ready to take Australian hip hop into a new era, emerges African-Australian artist B Wise with his new single Prince Akeem.
Named after Eddie Murphy’s character in the comedy classic Coming To America, the song sees B Wise celebrate his African roots, likening his bloodline to that of a prince. Featuring dialogue from the film, Wise’s lyrics flow nicely over echoing synths, with production brought to you by Ralph Lauren of Jackie Onassis. Wise’s first single Like You from his upcoming debut album, due for release later this year, showcased his knack for clever rhymes and a catchy beat.
The album will also feature Nic Martin, Momo, Pro/Gram and Colourd Noyz – a who’s who of Australian hip hop.
After supporting the likes of G-Eazy, Jackie Onassis, Kid Cudi, GZA of Wu-Tang, Wise will perform his first headline show B Wise & Friends at Sydney’s Spectrum on Saturday June 20th to kickstart what is to be a promising year for the MC.
