For the first time ever, Ai Wei Wei will appear as an artist in conversation at the NGV this December.
Ahead of the much anticipated exhibition that combines seminal and exclusive artwork by Ai Wei Wei and Andy Warhol, “Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei”, Ai Wei Wei will be exclusively speaking to ABC TV journalist and presenter Virginia Trioli on Monday 7 December about the event, his work, and hopefully some insights into his time imprisoned in China for his critic on the government.
Now 58 years old, Ai Wei Wei is considered to be China’s most provocative artist, receiving high accolades from around the world for his work among the fields of visual art, architecture, cultural criticism, social media and activism.
The exhibition will feature artwork developed especially for the show, including floating works which will respond to Andy Warhol’s Silver Clouds 1966 and Cow Wallpaper 1966.
Other commissions include a five metre-tall work from Ai’s chandelier series of crystal and light; Forever Bicycles 2015, composed of more than 1800 bicycles; and Blossom, a new installation which features a bed of over 1,000 porcelain flowers.
