When you walk out of a gig with your ears ringing and a smile on your face, there’s a good chance you’ve just seen Sounds Like Sunset live.

The Sydney trio are back in the spotlight with their most focused release – and their first since 2005 – in single “Open Up My Eyes”. Appearing on a split seven-inch with likeminded Melbourne act Iowa, “Open Up My Eyes” is equal parts shimmering guitar noise pop and infectious hooks.

Brimming with the kind of swirling, fuzz-pedal-friendly noise that’s defined their sound over the last decade, it also features a chorus you won’t shake for days.

Sounds Like Sunset then cemented their spot as indie-rock royalty among fans with 2005’s set Invisible. An album nominated for the inaugural Australian Music Prize, it showcased their accomplished songwriting and honed sound, and enveloped the listener in the blissful wall of sound they’d made all their own.

With their third album in the works, “Open Up My Eyes” is a strong indication that their best is yet to come. Hold on, it might get loud.
