One of Sydney’s brightest young acts, RÜFÜS has just shared “Desert Night”, the second single from their highly anticipated debut album ‘ATLAS’ due out at the end of summer. “Desert Night” is the follow up to the critically acclaimed single “Take Me”, a truly infectious tune that has began to set RÜFÜS aside as one of Australia’s brightest live acts after heavy rotation on Australia’s leading radio station Triple J. Now, after a string of sold out shows across the country, the band has arrived with what is sure to be another success story in “Desert Night”. With an array of sounds built from days of field recordings while recording ‘ATLAS’, “Desert Night” is a emotional, moving number that sees RÜFÜS releasing their most mature work to date. Already receiving strong radio airplay within its first few days, look for “Desert Night” to be accompanied with a standout remix package forthcoming from Jessie Rose, Motez, James Curd, and Avon Stringer and Victor, along with a music video from acclaimed video director KATZKI, who previously worked on the video for “Take Me”.
‘Desert Night’ is available digitally outlets on June 21st, but you can pre-order the package HERE.
ABOUT RÜFÜS :
This is the story of RÜFÜS. If you read this it is possible you will know more about the band than each of their own mothers. They do not protest. Their mothers love them and they their mothers. For they enjoyed unique childhoods; conquering the level 1000 Sudoku puzzles, counting grains of sand on tropical beaches, skiing down bitterly cold mountain tops in Sweden and fossicking for riches amongst Opal mines in Lightning Ridge.
They found each strapped for cash and escaping the elements one rainy Byron Bay evening. They decided to spend the night writing music. The next morning they had a song. In the following weeks they wrote more songs and started to like what they heard. It was time to put together a band.
The EP times
With a “do it yourself” attitude, RÜFÜS wrote, recorded, and released their debut EP (2011) on their own label. Two tracks from the EP, ‘Paris Collides’ & ‘We Left’, charted high on top of the Hype Machine charts simultaneously. They convinced Jon’s brother, KATZKI to make a video for ‘We Left’ promising him free entry to all RÜFÜS shows for eternity. It clocked up 125,000+ views online, and was nominated as one of 12 Finalists in the 2012 Vimeo Awards for ‘Best Music Video’.
Their follow up RUFUS EP (BLUE) released in April 2012, debuted at No.5 on the iTunes dance charts, with the lead single ‘This Summer’ landing high rotation on national radio station Triple J. While both it, and their track ‘Talk To Me’ caught the attention of French tastemaker label Kitsuné, who featured the tracks on two of their well-received compilations.
Their live show began to draw a cult following, selling out multiple shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Newcastle and Perth. Playing festivals; Parklife, Homebake, Field Day, Big Day Out, Peats Ridge, Fat as Butter and Stonefest. They pinched themselves when asked to support one of their biggest influences (looking at you Royksopp).
They were invited to hustle at CMJ Festival in New York City. Playing the sold out Vitalic Noise showcase (where band members from LCD Soundsystem were in attendance) and scoring a coveted slot at Kitsune’s boutique showcase among others. After chance late night discussion they were handpicked by one of New York City’s most respected local promoters, Alex English, to DJ for the “DJ’s” at one of the cities best late night spots for a CMJ wrap party.
2013 and Beyond
They made enough noise to get the attention of the late Australian Dance Legend, Ajax, who signed the band to his label, Sweat it Out in early 2013. The guys have since worked to put the finishing touches to their debut album, ATLAS (due August 09, 2013). The album’s first single, Take Me, has taken off locally, reaching the #2 most played spot on Triple J. Internationally, Take Me is climbing the German club charts and has earned the guys an invite to play Art Love festival in Moscow, June 2013.
In 2013 RÜFÜS will be focusing on their album Atlas, both in Australian and around the world. Keep an ear out for RÜFÜS next track, Desert Night, at radio soon.
