Get ready Australia, because a new Australian live music TV series, The Set, is premiering later this month on ABC.
Hosted by triple j’s Linda Marigliano and Dylan Alcott, The Set will have some of the biggest names in Australian music performing to a live audience of 250 people.
Continuing the ABC‘s much-loved tradition of bringing live music to your living room, with shows like Countdown and Recovery in the past, The Set is a uniquely formatted show.
Each episode will feature a headline artist like Angus and Julia Stone, Vera Blue, Ball Park Music and The Presets. They will also curate the episode, inviting two special guest acts to perform live, and then close out the show with a collaboration.
Artists like Illy, Odette, Baker Boy, Wafia, Mallrat, Angie McMahon, Tia Gostelow, LANKS and Kult Kyss can be expected to make an appearance throughout the series.
And just to top it off, a share house set has been built for the show, complete with a backyard to create a real house party vibe.
Premiering on 31st October, The Set is a part the ABC’s Ausmusic month celebrations in November.
The ABC previously announced in August that a one-off reunion special of Spicks and Specks will premiere in November, with original hosts Adam Hills, Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough returning to the program.
Co-hosts Linda Marigliano and Dylan Alcott say that they’re pumped for The Set to start after keeping it a secret for a while.
“A new live music TV show is going to be a great thing for Australian music, and hosting it together is a bloody dream come true,” they say.
ABC‘s Head of Music and Creative Development, Chris Scaddan, says that they are proud to have so much great Australian musicians in the studio.
“The Set will be something for a new generation of music lovers to call their own,” he says.
“There’s a real energy inside the ABC about this show.”
The Set will have 30 minute sets on Wednesdays at 9:30pm, and full hour sets on Saturdays at 10pm on ABC and iView.
