Jazz quartet BADBADNOTGOOD have joint forces with dance producer KAYTRANADA on their latest track ‘Lavender’, released ahead of their latest artistic venture, IV. The purely instrumental track begins intense, in uniform with their usual experimental jazz sound. Easily moving from a sophisticated, bass-heavy groove into a playful and haunting mix of horns not unlike the outro to SpongeBob Squarepants.

Continuing on the track goes through phases both detailed and full, almost as if they’re telling a story and showing their skill simultaneously. Almost exactly what you’d expect from the collaboration, KAYTRANADA’s influence is seamless. His suspected use of synths and creation of melodies cuts through the weight of the track, forming the perfect musical love child of the two artists. The Canadian producer isn’t the only collaboration featured on IV, with contributions from Sam Herring of Future Islands on “Time Moves Slow”. Currently embarking on a tour of the states, BADBADNOTGOOD are set to release IV on the 8th of July.
