‘Adelaide four-piece Bad//Dreems are one of the best Australian bands at the moment…If only everyone else took a cue from these guys and stopped trying so hard to sound good…’ – Melissa Tan, whothehell.net
‘Put it on repeat and let it sink deep…’ – Chris Familton, Doubtful Sounds
Adelaide. There’s no time to wallow in the mire. If you do you’re just going to get sucked away. Sucked up north through the city’s decaying fringe, past the closed Mitsubishi plant, past Snowtown, past Port Augusta and into the dry red nothingness. This is the weird murder capital. The weed capital. The old empty jail. Bikie wars. The Family. Badlands.
It is this world that Bad//Dreems attempt to capture in their debut EP, Badlands. Mundane meets morbid; the humdrum meets the horror; nostalgia meets nightmare.
Bad//Dreemswill be releasing their next single Hoping For and their debut EP Badlands on July 19 via Mirador Records. Pre-orders are available now through Mirador.
Badlands is the result of sessions with producer Woody Annison (Black Cab, Rocket Science), and includes debut single Chills which wasrecorded with Jack Farley (Twerps, Scott and Charlene’s Wedding, Beaches) and Johnny Mackay (Fascinator, Children Collide).
Comprisingthree honest chords, a driving beat and lead singer Ben Marwe’s ragged vocals, Hoping For is the second single lifted from Bad//Dreems’ EP and encapsulates the underlying sentiments of Badlands.
The video clip for Hoping For was filmed in Port Adelaide and in the North of South Australia near Orroroo.
Bad//Dreems will be launching Hoping For and Badlands on Friday 26 July at The Gasometer in Melbourne, Saturday 27 July at The Hotel Metropolitan in Adelaide, followed by Saturday 3 August at Spectrum in Sydney and will also be playing at the Hand Games Zine Launch at The End on Thursday 18 July in Brisbane and supporting Wavves at The Ed Castle in Adelaide on Saturday 20 July.
Bad//Dreems were the second most played act on triple j unearthed in 2012 and have shared the stage with Children Collide, Oh Mercy, The Rubens and Cut Off Your Hands (NZ). Their take on The Seeds’ Pushing Too Hard will be featured on the upcoming vinyl release of the Nuggets re-release.
