In his 10 years working the local hip hop circuit, Perth MC and producer Mathas has built an impressive portfolio of socially conscious rap, tackling issues all too often ignored in Australian hip hop. In his latest offering Free Shit, Mathas continues to bring the goods, this time exploring the fine art of advertising and its powerful influence over children. Mathas is a creative storyteller, holding the attention of the listener from beginning to end.

The single, from his upcoming album Armwrestling Atlas to be released later this year, features the atmospheric work of producer Ylem. Ylem layers a solid beat with hypnotic synths, providing the perfect backdrop for Mathas’ thought-provoking rhymes. The soft and delicate vocals of fellow Perth artist Mei Saraswati further adds to the ambience, rounding out a track that is both warm and challenging.

To celebrate this release, Mathas will be heading on tour in support of The Funkoars.
