Sydney youngster and well-established beat-making sensation Kilter, popped into the Triple J studios this morning to deliver an original live track and a cover, calling in help from Deutsch Duke and Ngaiire on each respective take.
The original ‘Want 2’ sees Duke shred on the guitar with his sexy smooth vocals layered on Kilter’s characteristic tropical summer vibes to warm up the winter morning. But it’s the cover that really showcases the Sydney beat-maker’s impeccable production skills and ability to place his own distinct take on a pre-existing sound.
With soul songstress Ngaiire placing her delicate vocals over a sea of echoing percussions and liquid synth hooks, Kilter puts a dreamlike spin on Muscle‘s 1998 hit track ‘Ice Cream‘, shifting its original hip-hop vibe and flipping it on its head to become a slow dance sensation.
Kilter is ready to play at etcetc’s Vivid Music showcase this Sunday night at The Basement, Sydney. But if you can’t make it to that, take a look at the Like A Version video to see the producer work his swoon magic on a dance favourite.
