The musical journey for Melbourne’s Youthfire began, when he was introduced to artists like Phil Collins, Tears For Fears, Pink Floyd, Cyndi Lauper and Michael Jackson, igniting his fascination and love for 80s music. His own songwriting is inspired by his own life experiences and an exploration of his emotions, that are lead by his intimate vocal delivery, which is enigmatic, yet relatable. The ethereal beats and textured synthesisers throughout new single ‘Hallucinate’ will leave you wanting more.

In celebration of ‘Hallucinate’, we asked Youthfire share some of his favourite gigs, books, songs and lyrics…

Gig you’ve attended and played?

Was amazing to see Glass Animals performing in Brisbane a few years back. But, this was hard to pick!

A favourite performance that I’ve played, was when we launched Youthfire. We played at “The Metro Arts Theatre” in Brisbane and managed to pack out the venue!

Karaoke song to hear and perform?

Oh gosh, I’m so nervous about Karaoke… I’ve actually never done it. Eik! I’m actually quite shy when it comes to singing in front of other people.

Book to read that has been made into a film?

“The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.” I watched the movie first, then read the book. Really beautiful story.

Cover that you’ve performed and heard another artist perform?

I did a crazy “Moves Like Jagger” cover (where I samples The Cure’s Song “Lullaby”) – that was pretty fun.

Matt Corby’s cover of Tina Arena’s “Chains” on Like A Version was fantastic! Loved His soulful take on this classic.

Film soundtrack and who film director would love to write a soundtrack for?

John Williams is pretty epic! Going to say his soundtrack on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. hehe

I would love to work on film soundtracks for crazy, little film projects for/with my friends. No big names on my bucket list.

Song from this decade and last decade?

This decade: “I Am Sold” by James Blake. Love the insecurities in this song.

Last decade: “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac. It really connects with me and I love the lyrics.

Musical instrument to play and hear?

Give me any modular synthesiser to create crazy sounds with any day.

I love listening to the cello! I think it has such an expressive and beautiful timbre. I love recording cellos!

Artist you’ve performed with live and artist you would love to perform with live?

Opening for Brendan Maclean was absolutely fabulous. Plus performing alongside Aimee Francis, and going on tour with her was really fun.

I would love to perform with the Eurogliders; I’m really inspired by their legacy and energy – I love it how even now they still feel like a “local” band.

Song title of your own and song title by another artist?

“Leave” is a special song to me; I think it was the first time that I’ve ever been 100% proud of a song that I’ve released.

“Holiday” by Madonna – as I feel like I’m in need of a holiday right now! haha

Favourite lyric in your new track ‘Hallucinate’?

“Shaking Hands, I inject your love.” I love singing this line!

Youthfire’s new single, ‘Hallucinate’, is officially released on 25 November 2016 through MGM Distribution.

Youthfire will support Mo Louie (single launch) at Boney  on Thursday 8 December.
