Singer-songwriter Hollie Fullbrook of Auckland folk band Tiny Ruins has dropped a new single ‘Hurtling Through‘ from her forthcoming EP of the same name.

The EP was recorded and produced in collaboration with US-based Hamish Kilgour, of The Clean. The two first met in New York City in 2013, where they spent a week performing a number of shows together. On the final day of Fullbrook’s stay in New York, they recorded two songs in a basement studio with engineer & producer Gary Olson. A year later, Fullbrook was back in New York after a long stint of touring, and the pair recorded an additional four tracks, again with Olson.

The result is a seven-track EP of folk-based songs. The record includes two W.B. Yeats poems set to music, as well as a field recording of a late-night Brooklyn walk. A slow lullaby, ‘Hurtling Through’ sees Fullbrook’s languid but evocative vocals play out quietly over acoustic and electric guitar, percussion, saxophone (Greg Vegason) and bass and vibraphone (Danny Tunick).

To celebrate the single’s release, Tiny Ruins will embark on a run of solo shows in Sydney and Melbourne late November. Support in Melbourne comes from Dunedin’s Nadia Reid, and support in Sydney comes from locals Flowertruck and Stolen Violin.
