Tame Impala, who’ve spent the last 18 months traversing the globe in support of their critically acclaimed 2012 album, Lonerism, were the big winners at the WA Music Awards that took place this weekend. Taking out four gongs (one for every nomination), including Best Group, Single, Album and Music Video of the Year, it tops off a huge year for the Perth lads, and is the perfect reason to celebrate with one last Lonerism goodie to share with everyone.
London producer, DJ and label head Erol Alkan again pulls Tame Impala apart. This time he’s taken ‘Be Above It’, the opening track from Lonerism, and stretched it apart at the seams while turning the acid up to eleven.
The original ‘Be Above It’ already dabbles in techno-like repetition, albeit with mostly live loops, and Alkan takes this approach to its logical conclusion, and raises the roof to previously unfathomable jacking heights. It’s been a staple in his live sets this past summer, and will finally be available to buy 6 December.
You can preview the track here.
The Erol Alkan rework of ‘Be Above It’ will come as a white-sleeved, one-sided 12” and will be limited to just 1500 copies worldwide early December. The track will also be available digitally.
Lonerism is available now through Modular Recordings.
Tame Impala will be touring the country in January as part of the Big Day Out line up!
