In response to last week’s announcement by the Federal Government that all funding to the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) would be axed, Sydney based singer songwriter Sarah Blasko will be performing an intimate show at The Giant Dwarf, Redfern, Sydney on World Refugee Day – Friday June 20th with all proceeds going to the RCOA.
Chief Executive of the RCOA, Paul Power, told ABC radio, “It seems extraordinary that our organisation – which has been doing this work through thick and thin for 33 years – has been singled out for this treatment. This in many ways illustrates the state of the relationship between the non-government sector – particularly organisations working on asylum issues – and the government at the moment.”
Having released Blasko’s grandest record yet, I Awake, in 2012, she is currently writing for her fifth solo record.
Tickets will be available from from 9am on Wednesday June 4th.
