*rest assured, there is no Putin in this post

Putting aside politics for one second, Russia has a lot to offer, and the role the Russian Resurrection Film Festival plays in presenting another side to the country is very important.

Through varied and creative interpretations of Russian culture, audiences are given a rare and diverse range of voices and opinions from within Russian cinema and society. It’s the festival’s 11th year in Australia and the event will be debuting in New Zealand for the first time.

The genre range is enormous, including art-house indie, comedy, fantasy, documentary, heavy drama and films for the kids too. In keeping with tradition, old classics are back again as well, this time celebrating Mosfilm’s 90 year Anniversary.

The 2014 Russian Resurrection Film Festival is supported by Event Cinemas, ACMI and Rialto Cinemas and will screen nationally from October 28 – November 27.
