Melbourne’s own The Letter String Quartet is set to bring their collaborative new Sonic Series to one of the city’s most historic and prominent artistic spaces, The Oratory at Abbotsford Convent.

In the three-part concert series, which will span over six months, the Quartet’s Biddy Connor (viola), Zoe Barry (cello), Steph O’Hara and Lizzie Welsh (violin) will collaborate with musicians and video artists to create fresh and unique interpretations of classical pieces.

Featured artists include Marita Dyson (The Orbweavers), Maria Zajkowski (poet), Evelyn Morris (Piklet), Laura Jean, Ross McLennan (Snout), Wally Gunn (AUS/USA) and Erik de Luca (USA), as well as video artist Megan Evans.

The first concert of the series, Oculus Sonic, will be featured as part of the convent’s Spiritous 2015 program. A flagship commissioning program, Spiritous is about celebrating the unconventional, with artists of all trades creating pieces that compliment the grand atmosphere of the convent.
