Presentation Night returns to Melbourne’s the Corner Hotel this August, with the pub rock show in its third successful season.

This time around, football commentary colossus Dennis Cometti will join pencil-moustached rock n’ rolla Dave Graney for an evening of conversation about football, music, and their careers. It works like this: bar stools, a table, and a turntable are set up on stage. Refreshments are served.

Legendary music and sports broadcaster Francis Leach will host a conversation between an elite footballing type who loves music, and a storied musician who loves football. Taking football and music as starting points, the two champions discuss our obsessions: life, love, how to win a flag, and great albums.

Previous Presentation Night pairings have all sold out. Past shows teamed Bob Murphy with Paul Kelly; Matthew Richardson with Tim Rogers; Cameron Ling with Paul Dempsey, and Jude Bolton with Urthboy. With the deep and velvety tones of Cometti and  Graney next in line, the quality continues unabated.

Dennis Cometti is a legend of the football and broadcasting worlds. His turn of phrase, smooth reading of the play and ability to inject humour and obscure musical references into the game have made him one of the most distinctive voices in football. A true renaissance man, Dennis combined his work as a Top 40 DJ in Perth in the late ‘60s with a playing career at West Perth in WAFL, where he played 40 games. A stint as coach of West Perth followed in the early ‘80s before broadcasting took his attention full time.

Dave Graney first came to attention in the late ‘70s as the leader of the legendary The Moodists. From there he formed the Coral Snakes and White Buffaloes, before branching out solo, winning an ARIA for his album The Soft and Sexy Sound, bringing the fringes to the mainstream and releasing more than a few souls in the process.  Dave now fronts the mistLY, hosts the fantastic ‘Banana Lounge Broadcasting’ program on Triple R, and continues to be one of our greatest musical and cultural ambassadors.

Francis Leach’s radio career began hosting triple j’s metal show ‘Three Hours of Power’ before moving into prime time. He has since become the host of ‘Grandstand Breakfast’ on ABC radio, A-League commentator and a regular guest on ABC TV’s ‘Offsiders’ program. He runs the show with the deft touch of a man who exactly what to do and when to do it.
