Tuva Finserås is one of those rare artists who cause your hairs to stand on end, demanding your full attention. Her soulful, powerful, yet fragile voice is utterly immersive, taking the listener on a journey through her psyche. On ‘While Our City Sleeps’, she allows her voice to take centre stage with minimal, ambient soundscapes constructed of guitars and strings swelling beneath. There is a haunting emotional resonance to the track, coupled with a delicate, ethereal delivery that causes the listener to hang on every beautifully written word. Her paired back aesthetic matches that of the music, and there is something electrifying and captivating about every aspect of this young talent.
The Norwegian born artist is set to release her debut self-titled EP on Friday the 15th of June. Previous singles she has revealed from the album, ‘Easy Going Monday’ and ‘Pack of Wolves’, boast a rather different atmosphere to ‘While Our City Sleeps’, particularly the former which has a more stark pop sensibility to it. Across these three songs, Tuva Finserås has demonstrated three distinctly different sides of her own artistry, demonstrating an admirable versatility. She is setting herself up as a stylistic chameleon able to elicit a range of emotions from her listeners.
Speaking about ‘While Our City Sleeps’, Tuva has said “Whilst everything is feeling dead in the middle, you hear that things come back to life with the vibrant change in the composition and optimistic change of pace at the end of the piece.” Tuva comes from a classical piano and composition background, which is reflected in her current contemporary stylings.
