Alt-rock outfit and local Melbourne boys Tug are continuing their soaring success of the past year with the release of their new single ‘Colours Of The Season’. This comes as the third and final single from their upcoming debut album You’re Not Exceptional Man which is set for release on September 12 on Side Stare Records.
The new single eases you into the track with stringy guitars, as their signature flute sounds weave throughout. There is something so disconnected yet harmonious within the track as it switches between heavy hitting riffs, dreamy melodies and that ever-present fluttering flute. These changes throughout the song keep the listener on edge as they struggle to guess what will happen next. The single leaves you with a sense of chaos and order. The band has a sort of King Gizzard vibe to them while still putting their own unique spin on their tracks.
Sitting at 7.24 minutes this track is definitely a journey, and nothing ever feels stagnant. This is a testament to the skills of Tug as a band. ‘Colours Of The Season’ sits wonderfully with their two previously released singles, the punchy and electric ‘Paranoid Black Sheep’ and the warmer, softer ‘Through The Door’.
Having only formed in mid 2017, the band have already played a number of impressive gigs, supporting the likes of Davey Lane (You Am I), Leah Senior and The Pretty Littles. 2018 isn’t looking to slow down for the band either with the release of their debut album and a spot on the line-up for the 2018 Kennedy’s Creek Music Festival in Victoria. With one east coast tour already under their belt and another one to be announced very soon, these Melbourne lads are sure to have a huge year.
