In 1947, Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston of Malcolm in The Middle and Breaking Bad fame) was Hollywood’s top screenwriter until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs. He served his sentence, but after his release, went on to write for the Golden Age of cinema under different names. Trumbo, directed by Jay Roach, recounts how Dalton used words and wit to win two Academy Awards and expose the absudity and injustice under the blacklist, which entangled everyone from gossip columnist Hedda Hopper (Helen Mirren) to John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger. Co-stars Diane Lane, John Goodman, Dean O’Gorman and Elle Fanning.
