Icelandic folk-pop five-piece Of Monsters And Men have released a fantastical music clip for their latest single ‘Crystals‘.
Returning with their sophomore album, Beneath the Skin, the band’s sound is excitingly leaning towards darker folk anthems.
Following on from their widely successful 2012 debut My Head Is An Animal, they are showing music maturity by moving on from campfire-style, nature influenced themes, and into more sensual and spiritual explorations of death, decay and destruction.
Shot in Iceland by directors Arni and Kinski, the quirky quintet’s new clip is another imaginative offering that blends steampunk with witchcraft. Led by co-lead singer Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir – with gold-flaked eyeshadow and metallic accents dripping from her lashes – the bandmates partake in an experimental Frankensteinian-esque affair.
They mix strange looking substances with feathers, stones and flowers to create a human being, supported by a luscious, chant-centric chorus “Cover your crystal eyes/And let your colors and blend with mine”.
The band will play Splendour In The Grass in Australia in July, as well as sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney.
Beneath the Skin will be out June 5 through Republic Records.
