Promoters Love Police have announced that Melbourne will host a new Americana themed festival ‘Out On The Weekend’, taking its name from the opening track of Neil Young’s classic 1972 album Harvest. ‘Out On The Weekend’ is a one day celebration of Americana music, great food and fine booze to be held at Seaworks, Williamstown on Saturday 18th October.
Headlining the inaugural ‘Out On The Weekend’ will be Justin Townes Earle, considered a forefather of Contemporary Americana. Townes Earle will be supporting the release of his fifth studio album Single Mothers and is joined on the bill by Australia’s own eccentric alt-country rocker Henry Wagons as well as Ryan Bingham, Robert Ellis, Lindi Ortega, Nikki Lane, The Delines, Jonny Fritz, Emma Swift, Chris Altmann, Raised By Eagles and The Morrisons.
In an open letter on the ‘Out On The Weekend’ official website, Brian ‘BT’ Taranto, Director of Love Police, says the inspiration for the festival comes from “a fascination with the country sounds, the roots of it all, let’s just call it Americana music.”
Taranto says ‘Out On The Weekend’ is not designed to be a huge festival, “just somewhere to get into it for a day with friends and like minded folks.”
“The one thing that will connect everyone at this event will be that they have all heard Harvest in it’s entirety, and probably own that 1972 classic,” says Taranto.
Sydney’s leading renegade chefs, Ben Milgate & Elvis Abrahanowicz of Porteño/Bodega fame and Raph Rashid – Melbourne’s Street Food King of Beatbox Kitchen, Taco Truck and All Day Donuts; will provide culinary delights, with a full mouthwatering lineup of gourmet food and beverages to be revealed soon.
