Joshua Seymour is a storyteller, an interpreter, and can captivate an audience in any situation.

Having spent the last few years as co-songwriter in Melbourne alt-country band Cherrywood, Seymour has come out swinging with a set of his own songs, and his debut Rope Tied Hope (recorded in Texas), see’s him put his own Australian spin on Americana.

Drawing from personal experiences – sometimes hilarious, often poignant fictional accounts – he brings an honesty and frankness to his songs. His distinctive, enigmatic vocal style and unique take on finger picking on both Guitar and Mandolin should see this burgeoning talent considered one of Australia’s most exciting songwriters.

On debut single ‘Two Or Few’, Seymour has crafted a modern tune wrapped in a timeless tinge of melancholy and nostalgia. The accompanying film clip, directed by Chris Matthews (Batpiss, Cosmic Psychos, Cherrywood), was shot in rural Victoria and features its vast, roaming landscape.

Seymour is a traditionalist who has immersed himself in the old-timey standards of dust-bowl era American folk and blues recordings. His music has a compellingly plaintive quality that harks back to a bygone era of a classic older rural performer.

Lucky Buck Records brought in Grammy award-winning engineer David Willingham and producer Robert Jason Vandygriff to contribute to the LP.

Rope Tied Hope is out now on Lucky Buck Records.
