‘Future soul’/’wondercore’ group Hiatus Kaiyote this morning made their triple j Like A Version debut with Gorillaz’ 2005 electro pop hit ‘Dare’, somehow morphing the song from its original form into a beatsy, soul-flavoured odyssey which could almost have passed as their own. It seems almost effortless as the band churn out velvet smooth chords adjusted to sound sassier than before, with Nai Palm’s voice warming the lyrics to a song that sounded pretty robotic to begin with. It suggests that maybe – just maybe – any song can be made to sound like it was produced in a jazz lounge.

The band also performed ‘Nakamarra’, a single from their 2012 album Tawk Tomahawk while in the studio.
