Bondi actress Genna Chanelle Hayes has scored a leading role in a Venezuelan thriller.
Hayes is heading to South America this month to star in the upcoming film, Infection. She caught the attention of Venezuelan filmmaker Flavio Pedota, while he was scouring the globe for a female lead for his latest production.
“I got a call mid-year, and obviously jumped at the opportunity to take on a role like this. It’s a very timely story, and to be part of a production set in a country so rich in it’s political and cultural history- well it’s a dream really,” Hayes said.
Infection deals with the outbreak of an unknown virus in Venezuela, a story inspired by real life events after the Chikungunya virus gripped the country last year. “I just loved the fact that this is a very real story coming from a very real place. Also, there is a lot of action in this film – which is very exciting to me as I am a little bit of an adrenaline junkie,” Hayes said.
The busy young star is also an accomplished filmmaker with her Bondi film company One Love Films. She recently explored the theme of interracial love in Wurinyan, starring Mark Coles Smith and Christine Anu. It premiered to rave reviews in Sydney earlier this year, and Hayes will return from L.A in January to begin production on her feature directorial debut (Three) touching on same-sex marriage.
