In 2015, Flickerfest will celebrate its 24th year as Australia’s most trusted film festival and continue to discover the most talented short filmmakers Australia – and the world – has to offer.

The competition – which is the largest and only short film competition with Academy accreditation and BAFTA recognition – will take place in the historic art deco Bondi Pavilion on Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach, from the 9-18th January, 2015.

A large audience is expected to attend the 10-day extravaganza and experience the most inspirational and creative short films from around the world in this unique and magical Australian location. The festival will also be followed by a 50 venue national tour across all states throughout late January – May.

Over 2,200 entries from around the world were received for the festival this year, and just over 100 were officially screened in competition. The successful films screening at Flickerfest are all united by their excellence within the short film genre, proving the short films’ role as a centre piece of innovation and creativity in global cinema.

Films in competition at Flickerfest compete for a number of prestigious prizes, including The Academy accredited Awards, For Best International Short Film, Best International Animation, Best Australian Short Film and Best Short Documentary, plus a host of other hotly contested prizes that recognize the various craft areas inherent in making a great short film.

In 2015, Flickerfest will screen approximately 20 different short film programmes during the festival season, and a number of showcase sessions including ‘FlickerKids’, ‘Comedy Shorts’, and a programme dedicated to relationships called ‘Love Bites’ will also screen.

This year, the much anticipated theme revolved around iconic film classic James Bond who descends upon Bondi beach in a brilliantly crafted comic parody trailer. Directed by acclaimed director, Matt Moore and produced by Moth Projects, the launch video starred the legendary Aussie actress of stage and screen Robyn Nevin, homegrown talent Rodger Corser and supermodel Samantha Harris. Moore’s stylish promo is a personal thank-you to the Flickerfest competition, having won the Audience Award for his comedy ‘Julian’ at Flickerfest back in 2012.
