Possibly the busiest individual on the Melbourne music scene, Ella Thompson has today revealed the plans for her debut solo album to be released later this year titled Janus (taking its name after the Roman God).

On top of that she has somehow managed to score some time in-between playing with bands such as GL, Dorsal Fins, Axolotl, and The Bamboos to spend time in the studio with producer and friend John Castle (The Bamboos, Vance Joy, Gossling). The result? Her single ‘Arcade’ which dropped this morning alongside a video by Jason Galea (possibly the most in-demand visual artist in Melbourne).

The song sounds clean. Soaring synth textures underlay her powerful vocals alongside a pounding drum groove. Although at times the single sounds polished beyond belief, it’s a clean-cut sound that’s bound to resinate with a large audience. A solid start to her solo music career.

Janus is set for release on May 22 via Caroline Music Australia.
