While inthemix was busy compiling picks for the best tracks of the year so far, BBC Radio 1 were getting ready to mark 2013’s halfway point with a list of their own. The station’s ‘Half-Yearly Zeitgeist Report’ aired over the weekend, honing in on the artists getting the most heat right now. The special one-off broadcast saw the tastemakers call on blog aggregator Hype Machine, who combed through no fewer than 850 of the internet’s best music blogs and spat out a list of the top 20 most blogged artists of 2013 so far. Then over two hours, Radio 1 counted down the acts who’ve got the most attention over the past six months.

The act to come out on top probably won’t surprise you: it was brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, better known as Disclosure, who’ve taken the mantel of 2013’s most blogged about artist so far. More surprising is that they beat out none other than Daft Punk to get there – all the fuss over the robots’ Random Access Memories return only took them to #5. Disclosure also edged out the likes ofJames Blake (#4), AlunaGeorge (#11) The xx (#12) and Classixx (#14) to get to #1. Not even the relentlessly-remixed Lana Del Rey could challenge the Howard brothers to the title, the Video Gamesdarling coming in at only #10.

“It’s weird ‘cause me and Howard don’t really follow blogs too much cause it’s a bit scary,” Guy Howard told the BBC on air. “[But] blogs are a huge reason Disclosure are in existence. We started out this whole thing by getting on a few blogs.” With the Settle hit parade far from over, we’d wager their internet dominance isn’t going to end anytime soon.
