The ninth annual Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards will this year be held on October 8th at North Melbourne’s new venue Meat Market – changing the venue of the event for the first time in three years.
Awards on the evening will include Best Independent Album, Best Independent Dance/Electronica Album, Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album, and Best Independent Label. Adding to this, the second edition of the Carlton Dry Global Music Grant is set to be handed to an upcoming Australian band, with last year’s winners King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard using their $50 000 prize money from the inaugural competition to tour America and Canada, recording two albums in New York State.
Conditions of entry for this year’s grant require that the band are Australian, and are either self-released or on an independent and entirely Australian-owned label. Entries must be submitted by September 1st. Further criteria can be found here.
The event is run by The Australian Independent Records Association (AIR). For more information visit www.air.org.au.
