The Australian Independent Records Association (AIR) has announced the nominees for this year’s Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards, with almost 60 acts nominated across 12 categories.

Now in its ninth year, the AIR Awards will take place on October 8th at newly-opened North Melbourne venue Meat Market; hosting a number of performances on the night on top of the awards.

Amongst the acts nominated for numerous awards are Rüfüs, Courtney Barnett, Violent Soho and DMA’s; the latter three all up for the ‘Best Independent Artist’ award. Last year’s winners of the $50 000 Carlton Dry Global Music Grant, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are nominated for the ‘Best Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album’ (Oddments); with the nominees for this year’s grant to be announced at Bigsound this month. Newcomers Allday, Meg Mac and Remi are also nominated for awards; joining veterans Paul Kelly, Gurrumul and John Butler Trio amongst the ranks.
