Melbourne’s Fan Girl have seen themselves on the up and up lately, turning heads wherever they go. Their latest single ‘Small Town’ continues that promising trend, with an awesome complimentary video featuring Broden Kelly of Aunty Donna fame. They’ll be dropping their debut album Elephant Room on March 23rd. In the mean time, you can check out ‘Small Town’ below. Fan Girl took us behind that new single, telling us how it came to be, and how it developed.

‘Small Town’ literally took the whole writing and recording process to get right. The outro, and the main chorus idea were written very early on, as were some of the lyrics and melodies, but it was basically the last tune on the record to really click. It was born out of the idea to write something as catchy as possible, but to present it in a less conventional manner, and we think both the music and the lyrics reflect that. Is there a chorus? Where is the bridge? Please let us know.

‘Small Town’ opened a lot of doors for us. It was the first demo we sent off into the world, and it really helped us get some interest and build the team we have around us today. We were being told to change the structure and make it more radio-friendly, but we were smitten with our moody 3-minute epic.

Making the video for ‘Small Town’, directed by Harry Anderson and starring the hilarious Broden Kelly of Aunty Donna, was probably the easiest part of the process. Working with a true professional in his field, and living out our slapstick comedy dreams was pretty special, and incredibly funny.

‘Elephant Room’ is out on March 23 thru Caroline Australia.
