Lead vocalist of The Bamboos, Kylie Auldist goes full 80s in a new clip for ‘Sensational’.
Filmed as one continuous shot with the help of directing company STEASH, Auldist invites family, friends and fans to fill Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar, channeling Studio 54 — complete with fur coats, shots and drag queens — in the video.
Auldist’s powerhouse vocals are at the forefront of the sound and vision, as she assumes full soul diva stance and takes center stage in the clip. And all the 80s glitter and hair isn’t without cause either: ‘Sensational’ takes funky vintage beats and couples them with Auldist’s timeless vocal prowess. Check it out above.
On the retro references, Auldist makes it quite clear where the inspiration came from, saying “You’d be forgiven for thinking ‘Sensational’ was a retro video lost in time and dug up from the library of my best friend’s parents. In fact, it’s a true account of any and every time I head down to Cherry Bar! Walk with me!!!”
‘Sensational’ is the first taste of what’s to come on Auldist’s forthcoming LP Family Tree, which is due out February 2016. Until then, you can catch the soul superstar in Melbourne and Sydney this month, as she premieres the new track at Newton Social Club and The Gasometer.
