Perth Electronic outfit KUČKA have been making quite the splash over on the West Australian coast, winning ‘Best Single,’ ‘Best Electronic Act’ and ‘Best Experimental Act’ at the WAMI’s. So what is it about KUČKA that has everybody talking?

It’s raw electronic experimentation.
You know when you first purchased Ableton Live, and you didn’t quite know what you were doing. You just played with sounds and showed your parents.
These guys have managed to take the groundings of that experimental quality, but package that into an aesthetic that’s marketable. The team, consisting of Laura Jane Fowler, Jake Steele and Katie Campbell (Catlips), has just dropped the fourth single from their upcoming Unconditional EP, ‘Flux 98.’

This time we get a funky, rhythmic bass that alludes to RnB traditions. It’s kind of like listening to Kelela with a much thicker electronic production. A good thing; If the track has developed from two genres, that means a larger market, that means more consumers, and that means more money.
And the best thing about this outfit is that each track they have released off the forthcoming EP has had it’s own distinct style. ‘Recovery’ was industrial and experimental, ‘Divinity’ was a little more moulded (still a melting pot of samples and audio effects), and ‘Unconditional’ was the most commercial, dripping in sexuality, synths and dirty bass.

Unconditional EP will be released Friday August 14th on Midnight Feature through Inertia. Announcing an Australian tour to create some buzz around the news, the latest ‘Flux 98’ exemplifies just how broad, experimental and appealing this EP will be. Can’t wait.
