It’s been three years since Jagwar Ma were propelled into the spotlight following the release of their game-changer of a debut record, Howlin’. In that time, the Sydneysiders have been on tour – from supporting the uber popular Tame Imapala, to making fans lose it at their own shows. Jagwar Ma have no doubt been busy in the lead up to the release of their sophomore album.
The trio’s latest track ‘O B 1’, is the first taste of the upcoming LP, Every Now & Then, set to drop this October via Future Classic. A tune true to Jagwar Ma’s distinct, entrancing modern take on ’60s psych-pop style, ‘O B 1’ is a track full of acid basslines, dub-infused guitars, and all-round ‘Ma goodness. Nonetheless, ‘O B 1’s’ music video is an insight into Jagwar Ma’s journey over the past few years – on the road, on the stage, and in the studio – overlaid with trippy visuals and effects.
Set to play at Splendour in the Grass this weekend, Jagwar Ma’s appearance at the Byron Bay festival will mark their return to the Australian stage for the first time in nearly two years. In light of this, and in support of the cracking new single, the trio have announced they’ll be playing two secret club shows in Melbourne and Sydney this week. Tickets are limited, and those who are lucky enough to snag a ticket will be emailed the inner-city location a day prior to the show.
