For a debut US tour, Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders made quite the boot-mark in American soil, and are bringing some of that steam back down under for their Australian tour in May.

At the recent South by South West in Austin, Texas – the gents were on fire. Having secured the prime support act spot for Courtney Barnett’s showcase, Ladder and the Dreamlanders went on to play 7 shows in the 3 days. Rocking parties held by Sugar Mountain, Tumblr and Terrible Records.

Given renowned band, The Districts, picked them as the best act at the festival. That puts one more succulent cherry on top of this American roulade of progress.

Now, their latest album Playmates, album #4, has landed a US release on Fat Possum Records. The same independent label that houses The Black Keys, and (hey, what do you know) The Districts.

It’s no surprise, Ladder’s dark and powerful voice, is eerily relatable. His baritone tonality helps accentuate every phrase, and the music has an expert sensibility to 80’s influences. It’s only re-affirming to see the American market responding well to the boys, recognizing some of the best music Australia has to offer.

The good press comes at a good time, given their Australian Playmates tour kicks off in May in Melbourne, heading round to Perth, Brisbane and Sydney. Critics have been fan-girling, and with incredible releases off the new album, in ‘Come on Back this Way’ and ‘Her Hands’, there is clear explanation as to why.

I’ll put the film clip for ‘Her Hands’ here, a video clip that holds your attention without really doing much. The acting is emotive, and the setting is suggestive. Simple done successfully, while a perfect space for the track to ring through.
